BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 23. The US is very interested in cooperation on green technologies with Azerbaijan, said US Ambassador to Baku Mark Libby in an interview with local TV, Trend reports.

He reminded that Azerbaijani Energy Minister Shahbazov was in Washington earlier this year and he had a range of conversations both with US Energy Department, and also with some of federal research laboratories.

"Those conversations are ongoing. I think what the US can bring to the table, obviously, there’s private industry and US investors. What brings the US investors here will be what brings them anywhere - the potential that it will be a profitable investment and a confidence that the framework of the rule of law and geostrategic stability is such that their investments will be safe. But I do think the omen is good. I think you see a lot of U.S. companies that are at the cutting edge of some of the green technologies in terms of transmission, battery storage, generation and so forth. So, it’s a natural match. Whether that match comes together and how it comes together will depend to a great deal on how the economic and geostrategic situation in this region develops over the next two, three, four, five, ten years," he added.

Ambassador Libby added that the US has excellent cooperation with Azerbaijan on energy security.

"That goes back decades and decades where the U.S. and Azerbaijan have been close partners, increasing energy security for the globe and for Europe in particular. We have excellent cooperation on counterterrorism. In the past several months as Azerbaijan has assumed the presidency of COP29 and is preparing for that summit here in November, we’ve had extremely close cooperation with Azerbaijan on questions of climate and on questions of working together to make sure that the COP summit is a success," the ambassador noted.
