ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, October 7. The number of passengers transported by vessels of Turkmenistan's State Service of Maritime and River Transport (Turkmendenizderyaellary) reached 139,140 from January through September 2024.
The data obtained by Trend from the country's service shows that this figure has increased by 15.12 percent compared to the previous month's data (120,866 people).
The income of the State Service of Sea and River Transport of Turkmenistan for January through September 2024 amounted to $111,259, which is 12.14 percent more than the figure for the previous month ($99,218).
Expenses for the reporting period increased by 12.88 percent compared to the previous month ($57,180), totaling $64,543.
The agency transported 156,565 persons in 2023. Revenues for the previous year amounted to $139,172, and expenses - $67,805.
To note, the Turkmenistan Shipping Agency was established on August 5, 1992, and carries out state management of commercial shipping in Turkmenistan. The main activities of the agency include the development of sea and river transport, cargo transportation, and monitoring the safety of fleets and ports.
With the economy on the upswing and export-import traffic booming, the wheels are turning to ramp up traffic volumes and polish transportation services from 2019 to 2025. This includes building new vessels to give the maritime fleet a leg up in the competitive waters.
