Azerbaijan to start exporting persimmons to Arab countries

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 12

By Fidan Babayeva - Trend:

Azerbaijan will carry out export of frozen persimmons to Arab countries, Chairman of the Azerbaijan Persimmon Manufacturers and Exporters Association Gadir Yusifov told Trend on May 12.

According to him, the first export delivery will be implemented in May, and the volume of persimmons exported to UAE will make up 20 tons.

“The export contract was executed with the term of 50 percent’s advance payment, and UAE had already paid 50,000 manat [$29,400],” noted Yusifov.

The chairman stressed that a number of countries such as Russia, Ukraine and others had suspended imports of products for an indefinite period.

“This situation has created serious problems for companies, because if the products are not sold now, the necessary funds will not be collected for the production of finished products the next year,” he said.

Touching on the issue of selling persimmons on the domestic market, Yusifov noted that the demand for local persimmons remained unchanged.

“In 2019, 20,367 tons of this product were sold on the domestic market of the country,” added the chairman.

Azerbaijan Persimmon Manufacturers and Exporters Association was created in August 2017 at the initiative of entrepreneurs and with the support of Azerbaijan’s Economy Ministry.

The main objectives of the association are to increase the manufacture of competitive and export-oriented products, as well as expand export of persimmons. Export revenues last year significantly exceeded revenues for 2018 and amounted to $114 million.
