United States Publicizes Volume of Oil Cargo Import from Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend / Since the beginning of 2007 the United States has imported 6.474mln barrels of oil and oil products from Azerbaijan, according to the energy information administration, which is part of the US Energy Ministry. In May the import was 2.055mln barrels, in April 1.728mln barrels, in March 17,000 barrels, in January 2.677mln barrels of oil.

In 2006, the United States purchased 10mln barrels of Azerbaijani oil and oil products as compared to 563,000 barrels in 2005. In 2004 this figure was 484,000 barrels.

Azerbaijani oil is exported from the Georgian port of Sups, where it is delivered via the Baku-Supsa pipeline. At present this pipeline is being repaired. Oil is also exported from the Georgian Black Sea port of Batumi, where it is delivered by rail from Baku.

Another export route is the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline, which delivers oil to the Turkish port of Ceyhan. This route has been functioning since 2005.
