Azerbaijan, Baku, Dec.10 / Trend H. Valiyev /
NGO "Innovation and Intellectual Property" will contribute to improvement of legislation and regulations on intellectual property and copyright protection, Aminaga Sadigov, the chairman of the NGO, the head of the Scientific and Organizational Department of the Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences told Trend today.
According to Sadigov, although today Azerbaijan has a number of laws in this sphere, unfortunately, still there are a number of drawbacks, which mainly associated with the lack of protection of intellectual property holders' rights.
"We intend to participate in preparation of drafts and regulatory documents by making specific proposals in this sphere. For example, we intend to prepare a bill "On innovation activity". Today, unfortunately, there are problems, including lack of specialized sectoral lawyers. One of the main directions of our activity will be training of lawyers, economists and managers in the sphere of intellectual property and innovation in the Azerbaijani high schools. We plan to cooperate with the Copyright Agency and the State Agency on Standardization, Metrology and Patents of Azerbaijan in this sphere," Sadigov said.
Also, according to the chairman of public organization, now Azerbaijan's accession into the World Trade Organization is under consideration and one of the requirements of this organization is to bring aspects of intellectual property protection and copyright into line with accepted international norms.
According to Sadigov, issues relating to the protection of copyright for software products are discussed here and therefore the public organization will also help to combat piracy in the software market. But, according to Sadigov, today the issue of protecting rights holders of scientific achievements is more relevant, as they are less protected unlike the finished product vendors, where licensing system is used.
