ASTANA, Kazakhstan, October 7. 72.3% of Kazakh citizens vote in favor of nuclear power plant construction, says Amanat Party's Institute of Public Policy, Trend reports.
An exit poll by the Institute found that 27.7% of voters opposed the project.
The institute reported that 44,160 people participated in the poll, with 600 interviewers and supervisors involved. The survey covered 300 polling stations.
Meanwhile, an earlier report by the Institute of Comprehensive Social Research – Astana showed 69.8% of voters in favor of the nuclear plant, while 30.2% voted against it.
On October 6, Kazakhstan held a referendum on the construction of a nuclear power plant.
Preliminary data from the Central Election Commission shows a turnout of 63.87%, with 7.8 million out of 12.24 million eligible citizens casting their votes. The highest turnout was recorded in the Kyzylorda region at 82.48%, while the lowest was in Almaty at 25.39%.
