Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani praised the friendly relations between Iran and Iraq in all fields, and reiterated that his country favors peace, tranquility and stability in Iraq, FNA reported.
"We want peace, stability and establishment of security in the friendly and brotherly country of Iraq," Larijani told reporters on the sidelines of his meetings with Iraq's senior clerics in the holy Iraqi city of Najaf on Tuesday.
He said the Islamic Republic of Iran has always made every effort to establish peace in Iraq, and added, "Iran and Iraq have broad cooperation and the two countries plan to bolster bilateral ties in all spheres."
Larijani left for Iraq on Tuesday in a bid to discuss bilateral ties as well as regional and international developments with officials of the neighboring country.
Iran and Iraq have enjoyed growing ties ever since the overthrow of the former Iraqi dictator, Saddam Hussein, in 2003.
Both sides are working on a series of plans to take wide strides in expanding their ties, in economic fields in particular.
In July, Iran boosted its power supplies to Iraq and exported 1,139mw of power to its western neighbor.
