The Department of Secrecy Maintenance was created under the General Inspection Department by order of the Defense Minister Irakli Alasania.
The order of the Defense Minister "On Amendments to the Order on approval of the Charter of the General Inspectorate of the Ministry of Defense of Georgia" was published on Tuesday, December 4, the Ministry said.
The order states that the functions of the new office would include the protection of secrecy in the ministry, checks to ensure the secrecy of proceedings in accordance with protocol, and controls that ensure that the requirements established by "The Law On State Secrets" and other regulations regarding secret documents and products are upheld.
The Department of Secrecy Maintenance will also have to keep secret archives, registers, and a range of cases in order to protect confidential documents and records management operations, and it must take measures to ensure compliance with the rules of secret documents.
