Georgia, U.S. discuss military cooperation

Georgian Defence Minister Irakli Alasania, who is on an official visit to Germany, has met with the commander of U.S. forces in Europe, Lieutenant General Donald Campbell and Deputy Commander of U.S. Naval Forces in Europe, General Richard Tryon.

The sides discussed the importance of the participation of Georgian soldiers in peacekeeping missions of the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan (ISAF) as well as prospects for future cooperation, the Georgian Defence Ministry informed Trend on Thursday.

The generals thanked the Georgian side for participation of their armed forces in the Afghan operation and praised the level of training of Georgian troops.

Alasania, in turn, reiterated Georgia's readiness to participate in the next mission following ISAF.

During the visit, Alasania visited the U.S. Army Garrison Hohenfels, where Georgian troops are involved in preparatory exercises for the ISAF mission.

The head of the Ministry of Defence visited the Landstuhl Regional Medical Centre and the University Hospital of Heidelberg, where Georgian soldiers wounded in Afghanistan undergo a course of rehabilitation.
