Egyptian President Hosny Mubarak received Emirati Foreign Minister Abdullah ben Zayed al-Nahyan in Cairo Tuesday - in only his second meeting with an Arab official since unrest began on January 25, dpa reported.

The minister delivered a letter from the President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Khalifa ben Zayed al-Nahyan concerning events in Egypt, which was not made public.

The UAE had previously issued a statement condemning all "foreign attempts to interfere in the internal affairs of Egypt" shortly after Egypt rejected calls from the United States and Europe to begin an immediate process of political transition.

On Sunday, Mubarak met with Omar al-Zawawi, a special advisor to Sultan Qaboos bin Said of Oman.

Meanwhile, thousands of anti-government protesters gathered in central Cairo's Tahrir Square for a 15th straight day of protests, demanding that Mubarak resign, while the second day of political talks between the government and opposition groups got underway. dpa str nes mat Author: Nehal El-Sherif
