The president of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov received on Thursday the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia Edgars Rinkevics who arrived in Tashkent on an official visit, Uzbekistan National News reported.

Regular Uzbek-Latvian intergovernmental dialogue on a broad agenda allows not only to consider the practical issues of bilateral and multilateral nature, but also to openly exchange opinions and assessments on important regional and international issues, said the president during the meeting.

Uzbekistan and Latvia have jointly accumulated a considerable experience of mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields, including "Uzbekistan - the European Union" format in the framework of international organizations and regional bodies.

Latvia is the third largest trade partner of Uzbekistan among the states - EU members, as evidenced by steady growth in turnover, which amounted to 243.2 million dollars by the end of 2012.

An important component of relations between Uzbekistan and Latvia is the interaction in the field of transport communications and the implementation of significant transit potential of the parties.

Edgars Rinkevics expressed his appreciation to the president of Uzbekistan for the warm reception and confirmed the interest of Latvia in further deepening of multifaceted cooperation on a long-term and pragmatic basis.
