US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said Saturday that Washington would donate 5 million dollars to the United Nations refugee agency to help Syrians displaced by the violence in their homeland, reported dpa.
"As the need continues to grow, so does our response," Clinton told a press conference with her Turkish counterpart Ahmet Davutoglu in Istanbul.
She added that the crisis in Syria had deepened significantly.
"No one can predict how soon this (Bashar al-Assad's) regime will finally be brought to an end," Clinton said.
