Georgian Foreign Ministry issues statement in connection with renaming of villages in Tskhinvali region

Deputy Foreign Minister of Georgia Sergi Kapanadze believes that the decision of President of non-recognized South Ossetia Leonid Tibilov to rename the Georgian villages of Tskhinvali region is the "political continuation of ethnic cleansing."

Destroyed homes in Georgian villages around Tskhinvali will be completely demolished and the villages will be renamed in accordance with the decision of Leonid Tibilov. He noted that industrial and agricultural facilities will be built in their place.

According to Ossetian media, the matter is the eight settlements, including Tamarasheni, Kurta, Kekhvi, Achabeti.

Sergi Kapanadze said ethnic cleansing, "held in 2008, continues."

"The decision on the complete destruction of homes and villages - a continuation of the policy of ethnic cleansing, which has been ongoing for several years," the Deputy Foreign Minister said.
