Azerbaijan, Baku, Sept. 29 / Trend , H.Valiyev /

Azerbaijani Internet service providers are not prepared to deploy services on retransmitting television channels via IP protocol on a qualitative level, the Executive Director of the Azerbaijani Cable Operators' Association (ACOA) Ali Aliyev told Trend.

In addition to legislation, the strengthening of technical components is required, along with a fiber-optic infrastructure, he said.

Cable television operators and Internet service providers have differences in the competence of broadcasting TV channels via the Internet. The activities of Internet service providers, unlike cable operators, are unlicensed, creating certain differences between them.

"Clearly, we are not saying that providers offer these services illegally. The matter is that in addition to obtaining a license, cable television operators sign contracts for licensing or certification to rebroadcast the channel to the end user. However, providers only provide broadcasting TV channels (IP-TV) as a service, while being absolutely unprepared to provide support on a qualitatively higher level," he said.
