Azerbaijan to Launch Exploration in Territories Where Shipyard to be Built

Azerbaijan, Baku, 6 November / Trend / Azeri Fugro, the service geotechnical company will launch geotechnical explorations by the order of the SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) to construct a shipyard, a source reported on 6 November.

Forty-five wells are expected to be drilled on land in 30 metres depth and 20 metres in sea. Special equipment to drill in shallow depth will be delivered to Baku from Kazakhstan in the next week. The exploration must be completed to the mid of December.

Shipyard will be a part of the project to build a new oil terminal and port in Garadag region of Azerbaijan. It will be located near Baku. Its creation would allow constructing various types of ships as for the needs of Azerbaijan and other Caspian Sea coast countries.

Currently, SOCAR possesses 250 vessels in the Caspian Sea Oil Fleet. The ships are used in support of maritime operations of SOCAR. In addition, navy ships deployed in support of maritime operations of large foreign companies operating in the Azerbaijani offshore Caspian Sea and beyond. The Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry (mostly research vessels) and State Border Service posses small number of vessels, there are also fishing vessels

The Azerbaijan State Caspian Sea Shipping Company possesses ships to transport cargo and passengers via the Caspian Sea. Currently, the Caspian Shipping Company has 86 ships, of which 41 - tanker fleets (including one water), 35 - dry cargo fleets, 10 - service vessels. Company also has the Po-Po ships, as well as sea train-passenger ferries.
