Azerbaijan Elected into UPU Administrative Council

Azerbaijan, Baku, 7 August / Trend corr. S.Babayeva / Azerbaijan was elected as the member of the Administrative Council and Postal Operations Council in the 24th meeting of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) in Geneva.

The delegation haded by Iltimas Mammadov, the Deputy Communication and IT Minister, represents Azerbaijan in the meeting.

Besides Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Russia and Ukraine were accepted to the Administrative Council.

Kenya was elected as the chairman of the Administrative Council. The chairman of the Postal Operations Council will be elected on 8 August.

According to the Azerbaijani Communication and IT Ministry, the membership in the UPU Administrative Council is significant from the point of view of the country's interests in the organizations. All the 41 members of the Council provides uninterrupted work and control of actions and implements regular, administrative, legislative and juridical actions.

Edouard Dayan was re-appointed to the UPU General Director position for 2009 -2012. For the first time Dayan was elected to the post during the Congress in Bucharest in 2004. Congress will finish on 12 August.

Azerbaijan has been the member of UPU since April 1993 and member of the organization Administrative Council.
