Income of Internet providers operating in Georgia up

BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 23

The income of Internet providers operating in Georgia increased by 8 million lari ($2.4 million) or 5 percent from January through August 2020 and amounted to 160 million lari ($49.7 million), Trend reports via the Georgian National Communication Commission (GNCC).

As reported, the total number of subscribers is 925,000, which is 38,000 more than in the same period of 2019.

As of the 8 months of 2020, the revenues received by providers are as follows:

1. MagtiCom - 85.019 million lari ($26.4 million), the increase is 4.133 million lari ($1.2 million) compared to the previous year;
2. Silknet - 63.582 million lari ($19.7 million), the increase is 2.632 million lari ($818,067) compared to the previous year;
3. Akhali Kselebi - 4.654 million lari ($1.4 million), the decrease is 326,407 lari ($101,452) compared to the previous year;
4. SkyTel - 4.560 million lari ($1.4 million), the increase is 1.950 million lari ($606,090) over the previous year;
5. Akhteli - 2.552 million lari ($793,201), decrease is 311,291 lari ($96,754) compared to the previous year.

According to GNCC, as of August 2020, 1 GB of the internet on average costs 1.12 lari (35 cents). One year ago, the same amount cost 2.31 lari (72 cents).
