Georgian ports see increase in cargo turnover

The cargo turnover in the ports of Georgia has increased, but there is a decrease in container traffic, Trend reports via the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia.

From January through September, the ports of Georgia handled 12.7 million tons of cargo, which is 100,000 tons more than last year.

Container traffic decreased by 18.5 percent, that is, 459,552 containers were handled in the Georgian transport corridor over 9 months of last year, and 374,379 containers this year.

In the port of Poti, cargo turnover decreased by 0.8 million tons. In January-September of this year, the port of Poti handled 5.6 million tons of cargo.

An increase in cargo turnover is observed in the port of Batumi. The volume of cargo transshipment this year increased from 2.3 million to 2.7 million.

There is also an increase in cargo turnover at the Kulevi and Supsa terminals. Kulevi handled 1.3 million tons of cargo in 9 months, and Supsa - 3.1 million tons of cargo.
