Kazakhstan's revenues from leather goods export skyrocket

The value of Kazakhstan’s revenue from export of tanned leather and leather crust from cattle hides amounted to $2.4 million over the first five months of 2021, which is 73.3 percent more than during the same period last year, Trend reports citing Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Industry and Infrastructural Development.

Tanning and leather processing enterprises are located in 11 regions of Kazakhstan. In particular, most of the enterprises of this industry are in Shymkent city (seven enterprises).

Manufacturers also operate in Almaty, Kostanay, Zhambyl, Aktobe, Kyzylorda, Pavlodar, North Kazakhstan, East Kazakhstan regions and in the cities of Nur-Sultan and Almaty.

On the local market, domestic leather is purchased in small quantities by domestic manufacturers of footwear (mainly for military and special footwear) and leather goods (bags, belts), the rest is exported.

The main buyers of Kazakh leather were countries such as China, India, Italy, Turkey, Ukraine and Spain during the reporting period.
