Several "terror acts" have been repelled in Iran with use of intelligence data, said a senior security official.
ISNA news agency quoted Iranian deputy interior minister for security affairs, Hossein Zolfaghari, as saying that the country's security forces stopped the terrorist groups in eastern Iran to join forces with groups in western Iran.
Further details regarding the mentioned anti-terrorist operations have not been disclosed.
Zolfaghari further elaborated on his country's battle against drug trafficking and added that Iranian security forces annually seize about 700,000 tons of drugs.
Earlier in July Commander of Iran's Border Police Brigadier General Qassem Rezaei told reporters that the security forces had clashed with a terrorist group that wanted to cross the border into Iran from Pakistan.
Rezaei said that the arrested terrorists confessed that they wanted to carry out terror attacks in certain cities including Zahedan, Kerman and Bam, the commander said, adding that they intended to blow up several cars in public places.
Qassem Rezaei said the terrorists were trained in Pakistan, calling for the government in Islamabad to take tougher measures against the issue. Iran has repeatedly called on its eastern neighbors to handle the terrorists, who try to cross borders and carry out attacks on Iran's soil.
In February 2013, Iran and Pakistan signed a security agreement, under which both countries agreed to cooperate in preventing and combating organized crime and fight against terrorism and activities posing a threat to national security of the two counties.
