Baku, Azerbaijan, Apr.18

By Fatih Karimov - Trend: Iranian President Hassan Rouhani says the country's army seeks to establish peace in the region.

Addressing a ceremony to mark the National Army Day, Rouhani said that Iran's Army is a role model for mighty and peace-seeking armies in the region, Iran's state IRINN TV reported live on April 18.

"But, this mighty army seeks to establish peace and security, not to attack on the oppressed and children," Rouhani added.

Others should learn from the Iranian Army and do not seek to fuel discord in the region and do not attack on defenseless children and old people in Yemen, he added.

"Attacking the oppressed will not bring honor for anyone," he said. "Why don't you extend the hand of friendship, brotherhood, and peace to other nations? What does the financial support of terrorists in Syria and Iraq mean?"

On April 15, Rouhani said that the Islamic Republic is not trying to dominate the Middle East region.

"Neither dominating the region, nor the Shiites' hegemony over the Sunnis are among Iran's purposes," Rouhani said.

He further said that the Islamic Republic will continue to support oppressed people anywhere in the world.
