Iran reiterates call for negotiated solution to Syrian crisis

Iran once again called on the Syrian government and opposition groups to hold dialogue to find a solution to the current crisis in the Arab country, FNA reported.

"The Syria problem can only be settled through dialog between the government and the opposition," Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi told reporters in Djibouti.

He added that the Islamic Republic of Iran hopes that the crisis can be managed through rationality, Salehi stressed, speaking on the sidelines of the ministerial meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in the East African country.

Salehi also said that Iran has presented a written proposition on the settlement of the Syria unrest to Russia, Egypt, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and the UN special envoy to Syria Lakhdar Brahimi.

Tehran has recently doubled its efforts to settle the problems in Syria which has been experiencing unrest since March 2011 with organized attacks by well-armed gangs against Syrian police forces and border guards being reported across the country.

Hundreds of people, including members of the security forces, have been killed, when some protest rallies turned into armed clashes.

The government blames outlaws, saboteurs, and armed terrorist groups for the deaths, stressing that the unrest is being orchestrated from abroad.

In October 2011, calm was eventually restored in the Arab state after President Assad started a reform initiative in the country, but Israel, the US and its Arab allies are seeking hard to bring the country into chaos through any possible means. Tel Aviv, Washington and some Arab capitals have been staging various plots in the hope of increasing unrests in Syria.
