Azerbaijan, Baku, Feb. 10 / Trend , J.Babayeva/
The Azerbaijani government examines proposals which do not contradict the country's legislation to resume broadcasting of the stopped foreign radio stations on the national frequencies.
"The U.S. Broadcasting Association and British BBC officials want to resume broadcasting of radio stations by other means. Azerbaijan has already prepared for it," the Presidential Administration Public-Political Department Head Ali Hasanov told Trend on Feb. 10.
On Jan. 1, BBC, Radio Liberty and Voice of America radio stations stopped broadcasting on Azerbaijani national frequencies after the ANTRC decision. The Law on Television Broadcast states that foreign stations can only broadcast on satellite, Internet and cable networks.
At present in Baku, U.S. Broadcasting Council officials are holding discussions to resume broadcasting of Radio Liberty and Voice of America radio stations on Azerbaijani national frequencies.
The U.S. State Department, Council of Europe, OSCE Baku and other international organizations expressed their concern about the decision to ban foreign radio stations from broadcasting on national frequencies, and asked the council to reconsider its decision.
Azerbaijan repeatedly stated that there is not any problem in broadcasting of radio stations in line with international practice, Hasanov said.
"Officials of foreign radio stations are applying to the National TV & Radio Council and other organizations with other proposals. At present proposals are under examinations. The proposals indicate different versions to resume broadcasting of foreign radio stations," the head of the department said.
Hasanov did not give additional data on the proposed issues.
