Kur River monitored

Representatives of monitoring services of Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan took samples of Kura water in connection with the day of Kura river protection. The first deputy minister on environment protection Alexi Machavariani and employees of EU representation in Georgia Anatoly Pichugin observed process of samples taken for analyses, the ministry of environment protection and natural resources of Georgia said.

"Corresponding monitoring services of Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan will carry out independent analyses of samples taken in Kura, Khrami and other rivers. Then results of analyses will be compared. This action will ensure permanent monitoring and protection of trans-boundary rivers from pollution," Machavariani said. 

Besides Kura specialists took sample of Khrami and Debedi rivers.

Results of joint actions will be announced in several weeks. EU finances joint meeting of three countries. Roughly €3.5 million will be spent for regional project.  

It should be noted that Azerbaijan repeatedly accused Armenia and Georgia of polluting Kura and Araz rivers.
