An assassination attempt was made yesterday on a Kazakh official in Almaty.
"An unknown man shot at Kazakh Military Court Chairman Serik Baibatyrov on Aug. 23 at 9:00 a.m. from a Mitsubishi Pajero at the intersection of Jarokov and Levitan streets," the ministry reported.
According to the ministry, the criminal abandoned his car after the shooting and went into hiding.
"The gunman has been identified as Baybatyrov's 39-year-old former son-in-law," the ministry said.
A criminal case has been filed for attempted murder. An investigation is underway.
