Detained Persons in Collapse of 16-Storey Building to be Arrested: Baku City’s Prosecutor

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. I.Alizadeh / Investigators will submit documents regarding the arrest of the four people involved in the collapse of the sixteen-storey building in one of the central streets of Baku City, Aziz Seidov, the City Prosecutor and head of the case's investigation group, said on 30 August.

A hot-line was opened due to the incident by the Yasmal District Prosecutor's Office and the Emergency Situations Ministry. Relatives of five people who are still trapped under the collapsed building have appealed to the prosecutor.

The building, under construction by the Mutaffakir company, collapsed on 28 August at 17:00 hours. The head of the company, Askar Aliyev, was arrested in accordance with Article 222 (violation of safety rules at a construction site) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan. So far, the death toll has reached twelve.

Buildings situated at the same intersection of the collapsed building at Nakjhchivan and Mukhtarov streets are being inspected, the representative of the Executive Administration said. Buildings being constructed by Athena MMTK, which are situated near the collapsed building, will also be inspected.
