Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend I.Khalilova / Washington will host an annual meeting of the Board of Managers of the World Bank on 20-22 October. Samir Sharifov, the Azerbaijani Finance Minister, a manager from Azerbaijan, is to the United States to attend the gathering, the Finance Ministry said.
During the meeting the minister is scheduled to meet with Donna Dowsat Koyrollo, Director of the WB Department for Europe and Central Asia, Shigey Katsu, the WB Vice President for Europe and Central Asia, Daniel Salivan, US Assistant Secretary of State, also co-chair of the Azerbaijani-American commission on economic cooperation, Cleer Loveri, Deputy Secretary of the US State Treasury and some senior officials of international monetary organization and companies.
During the meeting the minister will carry out talks with the WB representatives for further cooperation within the framework of privileged financing, the country manager of the WB in Azerbaijan, Gregory Jedrzejczak, said earlier. The WB submitted the list of projects to the Finance Ministry of Azerbaijan, which may be financed on privileged terms, over the subsequent years at privileged terms of the International Agency for Development (IAD).
The meeting will make concrete the projects out of this list, which could be a subject of privileged financing. This list represents project on upgrade of Azerbaijan's financial sector, continuation of reforms in the education sector, the development of the private pension system.
Under the new strategy on partnership with the Azerbaijan Government for 2007-2010, the WB plans to halt financing the country at privileged terms of IAD and direct them at poorer countries, particularly, Afghanistan.
