Two existing landfills will soon be closed in Black Sea coastal cities of Batumi and Kobuleti and a new landfill will be opened in Tsetskhlauri, 45 km north of Batumi within solid waste management project of Georgian Adjara, Trend reports via Georgian media.
The government of Adjara announces that the project is at the final stage and will ensure the introduction of a modern solid waste management system in Adjara and improve environmental conditions in the region.
The total cost of the project is 7 million euros and is financed by the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency.
The project development includes the construction of a new sanitary landfill at Tsetskhlauri, construction of a gas extraction system, closure of two existing landfills.
The project also provides technical cooperation to assist with the preparation and implementation of the project and a corporate development program to build operational and management capacity within the landfill management company.
