According to the Iranian Energy Ministry, a seven-megawatt solar power plant has been commissioned in Sarbisheh County of Iran’s eastern South Khorasan Province, Trend reports referring to the ministry's website.
The plant has been built on a 14-hectare area in six months with 6.5 million euros of investments made by Iran’s private sector and from abroad, the ministry said.
According to the report, the station will generate 12 kilowatts of energy annually and meet Iran's electricity needs at peak times. It will also reduce fossil fuel consumption by about four million cubic meters.
In addition, the station will reduce water consumption by 30 million liters a year and prevent the release of 9,590 tons of greenhouse gas.
Some 800 people are engaged in the construction of the station, and its commissioning will provide 20 people with jobs.
So far, the electricity production of solar power plants of Iran's South Khorasan Province has reached 18 megawatts. By the end of June, 199 solar panels with the capacity of generating 2,120 kilowatts of electricity were installed in the region.
