SOCAR Plans to Increase Capacity of Gas Refinery Plant

Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend I.Khalilova / The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) plans to increase the capacity of the Azerbaijani Gas Refinery Plant joint stock company through the construction of a new gas pipeline with the capacity of 5.5mln cu m, SOCAR reported on 21 August.

Privatization of the Azerbaijani Gas-Processing Plant JSC was removed from the agenda, Trend reported in July. The enterprise was again included as part of SOCAR.

The plant will not be privatized. It has been removed from the list of enterprises to be privatized," according to the Government. The plant had been put up for investment competition several times (87.14% of stock).

At present the plant refines 9mln cu m of gas a day, Davud Mammadov, SOCAR Vice President of the Refinery, said.

SOCAR intends to reconstruct the enterprise. Its processing capacity can be raised to 6bln cu m of gas per year.

In 2006 the plant received 2.846bln cu m of gas and produced 18,000 tons of gasoline and 15,670 tons of liquefied gas.

The first part of the Azerbaijani gas-processing plant was put to use in 1961. Besides six gas-processing facilities, condensate-processing facilities were constructed (capacity of 675,000 tons per year) and facilities on fractionating of unstable petrol (600,000 tons per year). The technology at the plant enables production of liquefied gas, kerosene fraction (re-agent for gas-processing facilities), heavy condensate (for oil-refining plants) and gas petrol (for petrochemical complex in Sumgayit).

Earlier the Azerbaijani gas-processing plant received gas and condensate from the Garadag field. Later casing-head gas and natural gas was pumped from Azerbaijani off-shore fields.
