The share of operational length of railway tracks as of January 2020 in Uzbekistan increased by 1.1 percent compared to the same period last year, Trend reports referring to the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan.
The total operational length of railway tracks as of January 1, 2020, amounted to 6,150 kilometers, of which 4,735 kilometers are of public railway tracks.
The share of electrified sections in the length of public railways amounted to 38.7 percent, increasing by 1.1 percent compared to the same period last year.
The largest share in the total length of electrified railways falls on the Tashkent region - 20.6 percent, Kashkadarya region - 17.5 percent, Samarkand region - 13.4 percent and Surkhandarya region - 10.6 percent.
Taking into account that during the pandemic there was a sharp increase in demand for rail transportation, there was an increase in freight transportation by rail. The share of freight transportation in total export of Uzbekistan increased in the first half of 2020, from 75 percent to 87 percent, compared to January 2020.
