U.S. Embassy: U.S. does not discuss military base issues with Tajikistan

The United State and the Government of Tajikistan did not discuss issue of military base establishment on the territory of Tajikistan, CA-NEWS reported.

Tajikistan expressed readiness to support transit of the U.S. commercial goods to Afghanistan through its territory by railways or highways, noted the U.S. Embassy in Dushanbe. The Diplomatic Mission noted that a delegation would come to Dushanbe shortly from the U.S. Transportation Command to discuss the issue further with Tajik counterparts.

The issues of the U.S. commercial goods transit was discussed during the meeting of Emomali Rahmon, the President of Tajikistan and the U.S. Ambassador Tracey Ann Jacobson on 6 February.

"During the meeting the Ambassador and the Presidents did not address issue of military base. The American Government is grateful for Tajikistan's efforts to stabilize situation in Afghanistan, by means of provision of its airspace to fly through and recent commitment to supports transit of commercial goods through its territory," noted the Embassy.
