SAMARKAND, Uzbekistan, September 25. Uzbekistan and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) have signed an updated roadmap until 2026, providing for the implementation of promising projects worth more than $4 billion, the statement of the press service of Uzbekistan's president said, Trend reports.
According to information, the signing took place at the meeting of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev with AIIB head Jin Liqun within the program of the annual meeting of the bank's Board of Governors.
The meeting also discussed issues of deepening cooperation achieved in recent years. In particular, the sides noted the successful implementation of joint projects worth more than $3 billion, which makes Uzbekistan one of the main beneficiaries of the bank in the region.
The President of Uzbekistan proposed to develop a Strategic Partnership Program until 2030, which will be aimed at developing the country's infrastructure.
The program's priority areas include support for education reforms and modernization of key infrastructure sectors - water, transport, and energy.
Special attention was paid to the promotion of large infrastructure projects in Central Asia, which should help strengthen regional cooperation.
The AIIB is holding its first-ever Central Asia Annual Governing Council Meeting on the theme “Building Sustainable Infrastructure for All” on September 25-26, 2024, in the city of Samarkand.
The two-day event will feature more than 25 panel discussions on innovations in infrastructure financing, climate resilience and sustainable development, and digital transformation of infrastructure projects.
