( ForUm ) - A British - Ukrainian society promised to lobby interests of Ukraine in the European Union, UK MP Richard Spring said, as it is reported with reference to LigaBusinessInform citing the NTN channel.
Richard Spring stated that geopolitically Ukraine played a significant role in Europe's security. According to him, the story is first of all about the Ukrainian transportation system, which supplies gas to Europe, and about agriculture, which produces food to Europe. He stressed that Britain was impressed with paces of economic growth and progress of democracy in Ukraine.
"As a politician I'd like to say that the common idea of politicians and commentators from the UK is that EU enlargement is very important and everybody is interested in Ukraine being a member of the EU. This is a weighty opinion," he said.
The activity of the British - Ukrainian society is directed to widening contacts between Ukraine and Great Britain. The organization is mainly engaged in development of cultural and educational programs, economic cooperation, enhancement of contacts between Ukrainians and British, Cabinet's press office reports.
As is known, Ukraine and the European Union approved the action plan for three years in February 2005. The plan provides for European neighbourhood policy for Ukraine and contains many provisions allowing to strengthen relations between Ukraine and the EU. If the plan succeeds Ukraine can sign a new enhanced agreement in 2008.
In September Foreign Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk said that the new enhanced agreement between Ukraine and the EU would be signed after Ukraine joined the WTO and Ukraine - EU talks into a free trade zone launched.
