Unlike previous years, Ankara is pursuing an independent policy, which has become a reason for intensification of terrorist activities in Turkey, says President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Erdogan noted that with its activities, Ankara has disrupted the plans of some countries, TRT Haber news channel reported March 16.

"Some believe that if Erdogan resigns, tranquility will prevail in Turkey. But was I in power in Turkey in the early 1990s when terror raged in the country?" he said.

The president added that the methods of fighting terrorism should be tightened in Turkey.

Erdogan also said that Russian and US-made weapons have been repeatedly seized from the militants of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) in Turkey.

The conflict between Turkey and the PKK, which demands the creation of an independent Kurdish state, has continued for over 25 years and has claimed more than 40,000 lives.

The UN and the European Union listed the PKK as a terrorist organization.

PKK's attacks on military units and police stations have become more frequent in the south-eastern Turkey in recent months.

More than 200 soldiers were killed in the clashes between the PKK and Turkey in 2015.
