Azerbaijani Opposition Party to Appeal Against Justice Ministry

Azerbaijan, Baku, 23 April / Trend corr. I.Alizade / The opposition Open Society Party (OSP) will make a court appeal against the Justice Ministry of Azerbaijan due to the fact that the Ministry has refused to register the party.

"The Party had developed all the necessary documents and submitted them to the Ministry a year ago. However, the Ministry has still refused to register the party. We will give it a bit more time and then will appeal to the Court," Yagub Abbasov, OSP Deputy Chairman stated to Trend .

Abbasov stated that he had met with the officials of the Ministry in connection with the registration of the party. "The Ministry representatives said that the documents developed by the party were legal and the registration process would be tackled in the near future. However, in spite of the Ministry's promise, our party has still not been registered," Abbasov added.

Abbasov noted that party would like this issue resolved before the forthcoming presidential elections in the country. Absence of registration documents hinders the party's pre-election campaign.

The Ministry's position on this issue is unknown.

The right central opposition Open Society party of Azerbaijan was founded in April 2007. The leader of the party, Rasul Guliyev, has been living as an emigrant in the United States for more than ten years.
