Azerbaijan, Baku, 18 September/ Trend / West already thinks that regime of the current Georgian President Mikheil Saakshvili does not conform to democracy and Russia's partners should make a choice - to support Saakashvili or to refuse support him unequivocally, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at the meeting of Council of Federation.
"Recognition of South Ossetia and Abkhazia has a firm international base. Territorial integrity of the states implies respect for self-determination of people living in the territory of this state," Lavrov said.
Russia responded Georgia's aggression in line with international principles. Saakashvili breached territorial integrity of its state himself," Lavrov said.
Russia has recognized independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
At the night of 8 August, large-scale military operations were launched in the self-declared South Ossetia Republic. The Georgian troops entered Tskhinvali. Later Russian troops seized the city and drove Georgian forces back.
