Georgia, Tbilisi, August 3 / Trend , N. Kirtskhalia /
Despite "some delays", the Kars-Akhalkalaki-Baku railway project, which will connect Asia with Europe, will be completed by 2012, director of Marabda-Kartsahi Railway LLC Bidzina Bregadze briefed the media.
He confirmed that the project already delays compared to schedule. "The schedule of works indeed broken, but it will not create serious problems in the end," he said.
According to Azerbaijani media, up to now the State Oil Fund of Azerbaijan provided $33,700,000 within the project to construct a railway line from Kars-Akhalkalaki in Georgia. By the end of the year, the Azerbaijani side must allocate additional $100 million.
"To expedite the process, we went to Azerbaijan. Recent events in Georgia have had a negative impact on the transfer of funds" - said Bregadze.
"We visited Azerbaijan in an effort to facilitate the process. Latest developments in Georgia had a negative impact on fund raising," Bregadze said.
He said there are also technical problems.
"Problems emerged during construction of a tunnel connecting Georgia and Turkey. It turned out that the tunnel is located in a avalanche zone. So, we had to change the project. A new project will be approved before the work starts," Bregadze said.
