Turkmen President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov stressed expediency of preparing in the near future concrete proposals concerning believers' pilgrimages to national religious sacred places. He said that the state will do all it can to help to solve the issue.
The corresponding order was voiced to the Turkmen mufti, national TV channel Altyn Asyr said. Turkmen people are followers of the Sunni denomination of Islam. Every year hundreds of believers go to Mecca for pilgrimage on state funds.
There are many unique historic-cultural monuments among the national sacred places, Kunya-Urgench (old capital of Horesm) especially is one. "Their preservation, study and popularization are one of priorities of state policy aimed at reviving the original cultural wealth of the Turkmen people," Berdimuhammedov said. He stressed the importance of the International Scientific Conference Jeytun scheduled for September. Jeytun is the center of early agricultural culture.
At the meeting it was mentioned that all faithful countries are preparing for the upcoming holy month Oraza, which celebrates imperishable cultural wealth - moral cleanness, charity and philanthropy.
