President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has received Executive Director of Smart Africa Initiative Hamadoun Toure.
Executive Director Hamadoun Toure recalled his last visit to Azerbaijan to attend the Bakutel International Telecommunications and Information Technologies Exhibition in 2014, as a secretary general of the International Telecommunication Union.
Hamadoun Toure highlighted the activities of Smart Africa Initiative which includes 22 African countries with board members of 12 African countries’ heads of state and government. He noted that the Initiative played an important role in establishing a single digital platform for the African continent, adding the work has already yielded good results. The executive director said that the organization is keen to collaborate with Azercosmos OJSC in the application of satellite technologies in its projects.
President Ilham Aliyev expressed his support to future cooperation between Azerbaijan and the Smart Africa Initiative, hailing the importance of defining the directions in this sphere.
