Kazakhstan, Astana, 31 March / Trend corr K. Konirova/ On 31 March, the Azerbaijani Embassy in Astana hosted the event dedicated to the Day of the Genocide of Azerbaijanis.
The event which involved representatives of the Astana-based Azerbaijani diaspora, Kazakh historians, local students and journalists, began with a minute of silence. Then, observing the Eastern tradition Imam Haji Gadir said a prayer for the victims of the genocide.
The Azerbaijani Ambassador to Kazakhstan Latif Gandilov read out the address by the Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to the public. "The ethnic cleansing that the Azerbaijani people sustained were caused by the territorial claims to Azerbaijan and its land rich in 'black gold'. We should always remember those events in order to prevent them in the future," Gandilov said.
A documentary dedicated to the tragic events of 1918 was then viewed shown.
