Azerbaijan, Baku, 5 May / Trend corr. S.Agayeva / Elmira Suleymanova, Azerbaijani Ombudswoman, will raise an issue to improve the protection rights of disabled people in the Azerbaijani Parliament. The main demands are to reinforce the attention on invalid people, as well as to develop the ways to implement the bills to protect the rights of invalid people, Suleymanova stated to journalists on 5 May.
As per the statistics, there are about 420,000 invalid people, with 15% of them being children, in Azerbaijan. The Government priority tasks are to render high quality medical assistance to invalid people, settlement of their social problems, creating appropriate conditions for them to adapt to the normal social life and formation of rehabilitation centres.
Azerbaijan, as a country that joined the European Convention on rights of invalid people, assumed the responsibility to protect disabled people and the Parliament should pass certain Bills that the states would implement, Ombudswoman stated.
Ombudswoman has developed a set of proposals regarding this issue and will submit the document to the Parliament soon.
