Renowned Dutch artist to give concert in Baku

The famous Dutch organist and harpsichordist Albert-Jan Roelofs will perform at the “Dutch night of organ music” concert on Sunday, May 26, in the Chamber & Organ Music Hall (Kirche), Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Baku reported on Tuesday.

The famous Dutch organist and harpsichordist Albert-Jan Roelofs will perform at the "Dutch night of organ music" concert on Sunday, May 26, in the Chamber & Organ Music Hall (Kirche), Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Baku reported on Tuesday.

The works of Bach, Händel, Sweelinck and other 17th/18th Century composers will be performed. At the concert Roelofs will put emphasis on the work of Dutch organist Jan Pietersz Sweelinck, who amongst the great composers from his era holds a unique and outstanding position in terms of contribution to literature for the organ.

Roelofs studied organ and harpsichord at the Amsterdam and Maastricht conservatories.
After earning his Doctor of Music degree at the University of Utrecht he has held posts as artistic advisor to various Dutch symphony orchestras and was till recent a staff member at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague. Next to his concert activities, Roelofs is 'organist co-titulair' at the St. Bavo cathedral in Haarlem, the Netherlands and co-founder/harpsichordist of the Wallfisch Band, a period-instrument chamber orchestra.

It will be his first concert in Azerbaijan. Roelofs is a frequent guest to international early music festivals (Utrecht, Berlin, Irsee) and he has served as a jury member at international competitions (Premio Bonporti in Italy).
