The Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources (ENR) carries out works on involvement of the World Bank to realization of the project for cleaning of oil-polluted areas on the Absheron peninsular, the ENR minister, Husseyn Bagirov stated on June 24.

According to him, the bank reacts positively to such an idea. Negotiations in this aspect are also held with other International Finance Institutions. The Ministry prepared a plan on cleaning the water basins of the Absheron peninsular, polluted with oil, oil products and other wastes; on cleaning the territory around the highway, leading to the Heydar Aliyev international airport, the Baku Bay, the area of the Oil and Gas Producing Unit (OGPU) Bibieybatneft.

"The greater part of the OGPU Bibieybatneft is polluted with oil. The oil deposits are currently running dry here, only part of the drilled wells is in operation now. Oil puddles formed on the area during the exploitation. Construction of various buildings is underway on polluted areas without observing any ecological standards”, he noted. The similar situation is observed in Ramani, Balahani and other settlements.
