Uzbekistan intends to double the export of fruit and vegetable products up to $1.4 billion in 2018.
This was announced at a video-conference chaired by the president, devoted to the analysis of the fulfillment of the tasks set for increasing exports and reducing imports.
The volume of fruit and vegetable exports in 2017 amounted to $708.8 million , which is almost 15 percent more than in the previous year.
Furthermore, the president noted the necessity of fully using the potential of regions specializing in fruit and vegetable growing ,planting high-yield crops on 150,000 hectares, which were freed from cotton and grain, and organizing modern greenhouses, refrigerated warehouses and processing facilities enterprise.
In this regard, the deputy prime ministers and governors were instructed to ensure the full implementation of programs on comprehensive measures to expand the harvesting, processing, export of horticultural, melon, leguminous and grape products.
In January 2018, the volume of exports of fruit and vegetable products amounted to $ 29.7 million, or increased compared to the same period last year by 28.8 percent. Of the total volume of fruit and vegetable products, the share of fruits and berries accounted for 21.1 percent (increased by 6.7 percent compared to the same period of the previous year), vegetables - 52.9 percent (compared to 27.6 percent), grapes-22 percent ( compared to 49.5 percent).
Uzbekistan annually produces more than 18 million tons of various fruits. In this regard, Uzbekistan is keen on creating more favorable conditions for the organization of direct supplies and access of agricultural products to world markets.
