Kazakhstan will provide 65 percent of the residents of its northern Kostanay region with gas, said the head of the Kostanay region Archimedes Mukhambetov at meeting of the local executive body.

"Work on the construction of gas pipelines are conducted mainly in Astana. In the near future the pipelines will be constructed in Kokshetau, and then in Kostanai region," Mukhambetov said.

He stressed that the main reason for active work on provision of the northern regions with domestic gas is the high price of gas purchased from Russia.

The head of the region added that Kazakhstan’s government is also focusing on the arrangement of housing and housing complexes in Kostanay, with the establishment of favorable credit and mortgage conditions.

These steps also aim to maintain the population in the northern regions of Kazakhstan.

"Only in Kostanay in the past three years, the volume of investment in housing construction has increased 10-fold - from 2.8 billion tenge in 2015 to 27.8 billion tenge in 2018," Mukhambetov said.

He added that this program is included in the list of "Five social initiatives" of president Nursultan Nazarbayev.
