(IRNA) -President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said here Thursday that the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries would be further developed and cohesive enough to fulfill its important role of managing global energy supply.

President Ahmadinejad, in a meeting with Nigerian Oil Minister and the OPEC Head Edmund Daukoru, expressed Iran's full readiness to further strengthen OPEC, reports Trend.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran, as an OPEC founder, would like to see the Organization having a fully technical and specialized managerial system, being based on fraternity and justice," said Ahmadinejad.

He urged all the OPEC members to strive for OPEC empowerment irrespective of the political considerations, adding, "The oil producing countries should have more consultations and forge stronger coordination to use the valuable and unique asset of oil to meet interests of the OPEC member states and of the global energy market." Pointing to continuation of the Zionist regime's atrocities and crimes in Lebanon, he added, "Such crimes are committed under the circumstances that supporters of the Zionist regime claim to establish peace, democracy, freedom and human rights at an international level.

Ongoing events are an indication of their honesty.

"We call for an end to the Zionist regime's war on Lebanon at the earliest. Continuation of the attacks prepares more ground for spread of war.

"We are concerned over wrath of the regional nations." Daukoru, who is also Nigerian president's special envoy, submitted a written message of his country's president and presented a report on his meetings with officials of OPEC member states on threshold of the Organization's upcoming meeting.

He stressed OPEC's commitment to present a fair price for oil and said reports on OPEC's decision to reduce current prices were incorrect and run counter to the Organization's policies.
