Some 16.9 million tons of cargo were carried by Azerbaijani modes of transport in January 2018 or by 0.3 percent more than in January 2017, the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee said in a report.
According to the report, the volume of non-oil cargo increased by 3 percent and reached 12.4 million tons for the year.
Some 78 percent of the total volume of goods transported accounted for the private sector during the reporting period.
Some 57.6 percent of all cargo were transported by vehicles, 31.1 percent - by pipelines, 7.2 percent - by railway, 4 percent - by ships, 0.1 percent - planes.
Some 143.7 million people were transported in January 2018, which is by 1.6 percent more than in January 2017. Most of the passengers were transported by vehicles (86.8 percent), metro (12.9 percent) and the rest part - other modes of transport.
Some 1.2 million tons of cargo were transported by railway in January 2018 or by 16.2 percent less than in January 2017.
On average per day, the number of loaded carriages made up 298 and unloaded - 384.
Average daily load of carriages in the northern direction is 11,000 tons, in western direction - 4,300 tons and in southern direction - 400 tons.
Some 683,400 tons of cargo were transported by ships in January 2018 or by 6.6 percent more than in January 2017. Some 51.8 percent of the transported goods accounted for oil cargo. The volume of goods handled in Azerbaijani ports amounted to 908,500 tons in January 2018.
Some 9.7 million tons of cargo were transported by vehicles in January 2018, which is by 2.1 percent more than in January 2017.
Some 124.7 million people were transported by vehicles in January 2018, which is by 1.4 percent more compared to January 2017. Some 96.4 percent of the passengers were transported by buses and 3.6 percent - by cars.
Some 18.6 million people were transported by metro increasing by 2.7 percent in January 2018 compared to January 2017.
Some 169,600 passengers were transported by air transport in January 2018 which is by 15.6 percent more than in January 2017. Some 0.1 percent of shipment by this kind of transport accounted for the private sector.
In January 2018, around 2.9 million tons of oil was transported via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline compared to 2.84 million tons in the same period of 2017.
In January 2018, 81.7 percent of oil transported via the country's main pipelines accounted for the BTC pipeline.
According to the report, 3.542 million tons of oil was transported via the country's main pipelines in January 2018 as compared to 3.543 million tons in the same period of 2017.
In January 2018, 554,000 tons of transit oil were pumped through the BTC, which is almost 30 percent more than in January 2017.
Total length of the BТС is 1,768 kilometers, including a 443-kilometer section running through Azerbaijan, a 249-kilometer section in Georgia and a 1,076-kilometer section in Turkey.
