On May 22, the EU Special Representative for South Caucasus Peter Semneby discussed the situation in conflict zones in Georgia with the Georgian Defense Minister David Sikharulidze. "We discussed the activity of our observers, and noted that they have managed their responsibilities," he said.
"We are interested in the activities of our observers in Georgia and solution of security issues," said Semneby. He stressed that the EU observers play an important role in the border territory with South Ossetia."
Semneby stressed that Georgia is "an important partner of the EU and they are interested in stability and democratic development of Georgia.
EU Special Representative emphasized that proceeding from this, the EU is interested in the domestic political situation, and from this point of view, information was received about Muhrovan rebellion and the events around this incident.
In his turn, Minister of Defense of Georgia provided all the information on the growth of Russian arms in conflict zones. "During the talks with Semneby, was expressed concern over the increase of Russian arms and troops in the separatist republics of Georgia - Abkhazia and South Ossetia," he said.
Sikharulidze considers it necessary to strengthen the observation mission and their presence in the occupied territories.
