The first meeting of the newly convened Tbilisi city council (sakrebulo) elected its chairman on July 14.
Giorgi Alibegashvili, a member of the ruling 'Georgian Dream' coalition, was named the city council's new chairman.
The city council meeting was opened by Sevdia Ugrekhelidze, a deputy from the oppositional 'United National Movement' party.
The new chairman of the Tbilisi city council will appoint his deputies after consultations.
